Conférence de Hiroshi MARUYAMA, architecte, New York, professeur invité au DA.
If one might say « landscape » appeared in architecture with the birth of « modern subject », Hiromi Fujii, Japan and Peter Eisenmann, USA, are two typical architects who have rejected this « landscape » since the beginning of their work.
However, this problem recently became an inevitable issue for both architects, confronting them with « Outside/Otherness ». The transcendency of « landscape » being confused with tradititional view of nature, seems to be an obstacle to understand Japonese contemporary architecture.
This lecture will define the different approach of these two conceptual architects through my experience of working with them and open a new critical discourse on Japonese Contemporary Architecture.
